Do you ever happen to have something occur during the course of your day that relates directly to the sermon on Sunday or the Biblical parable you read last night?
Do you know the feeling of having absolutely no clue where your life is headed and sometimes growing weary of your direction?
And finally, did you know that a stud who hit 18 three-pointers in the 2007 NCAA tournament and helped propel the Florida Gators to a repeat national title is actually in the exact same boat you and I have once floated in?
In less than 24 hours the Durant-Oden draft debate will be over and career predictions and projections will start; widely unknown international talents and surprise picks will intrigue and depress fans across America and three former Flordia Gators, in Al Horford, Corey Brewer and Joakim Noah will likely pose for pics together in designer suits, celebrating their high draft selections and multi-million dollar contracts.
Then there will be there homeboy, their sidekick and a name that may not even be uttered on Draft night: Lee Humphrey.
With an event that garners overblown hype and a full load of glitz and glam, Joshua Cooley of the Baptist Press gives a refreshing look at the meaning of Draft Night for Humphrey, a college grad who is in the very midst of a faith journey that he knows will take him places beyond his imagination. His article, “NBA Draft viewed with eyes of faith” is short and to-the-point, but it is great to see about an athlete who has experienced so much recent success, yet remains humble.
The story focuses on how Humphrey is reading the Bible in a year and is currently in Exodus, a book where direction is sought after quite often. The thing to recognize is that while Humphrey wants a shot at the League just as much as anyone else, his soul will be at rest eventually with any outcome—because he realizes God is not limited to 30 teams on one continent.
